Munich

October 20, 1994
I am now in Munich having a most splendid time with our hostess, Claudia. She’s simply the best. She met us at the train station right on time and gave us a quick tour of her city in her mother’s BMW. It was quite a luxurious, WARM tour. We stopped for coffee/hot chocolate at this really cozy, friendly cafe. Our waitress was so nice and even pointed out the best selections for pastries. Although I was exhausted by our uncomfortable train ride (no sleeper cars this time) and pissed off the night before on account of Jon’s selfishness (he actually left Leigh and I at the hostel and told us he’d meet us at the station - we hadn’t a clue as to what train to board and even WHERE the station was located, for that matter - ugh - I was highly pissed. I had many thoughts of resentment toward him all day, however, and that just topped it off).

I felt really content and ready to conquer Munich with all enthusiasm. We came back to Claudia’s flat and settled into our new habitat for the next two days. It’s absolutely adorable. The decor and beauteous view from the windows makes me feel as if we’re getting the best penthouse apartment in a fashionable city. We rested for a while and then we set out for the English Gardens. The Fall colors of the trees made it even better than if we had come over the summer which is the seaason for tourists. I took pictures all over the place of swans, a German shepard puppy, a Chinese pavilion and a greek architectural structure on top of a hill where some guy who calls himself Jesus sits, surrounded by his “followers” smoking pot and hash. Claudia said that he has a wife and a child as well, but they choose not to live with him there on the off season. Whatever. The view from up there was…wow (running out of adjectives!! AAA!). I’m so glad I’m here.

Afterwards, we went walking around the High Street shopping area. It was pleasant, and a bit of a change from London - not as conjested. We ate at Roxy’s where I got yummy French toast for 7.50 DM. The waitress was decent. Then we drove down to the Olympia Stadium (something or other) so that Claudia could pay the rest of her towing fee that she got slapped on her the night before at a party. Right near it was the BMW manufacturing center and museum so we decided to take a look inside. It had old cars and new cars and even a movie at the end all for 3DM with student ID. The movie was a bit odd - there was a guy working at a desk in an office reminiscing the good ol’ days when he first fell in love with his wife. As they got older thwere was always some kind of vehicle present - say, a BMW? It was cute, but slightly random.

We came home, watched some European MTV and then headed off on the U-Bahn for the cinema to see Forrest Gump. I’ve decided it’s too patriotic of a movie to see in a foreign country. It was a great flick, however. It’s all in English too, so I guess you could say that some knowledge of English is a prerequisite. The previews were really long because there were TV-like commercials in German one after another. It was nice, though, the only thing was that people talk really loud during those previews - almost my favorite part of going to the movies.—>>>>>>>
